Thesis Installation Pictures

....and here are some photos of the installation at the Mills Gallery taken right before the gallery was packed with people.

Day 166

Here is the hanky from 6 March:

Reset Button Babel

I wonder who is responsible for the brilliant "Reset Button" gift to Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov?  As soon as I read the article, images of the totally insipid Staples Easy Button campaign filled my head.  The gift is rendered even more ridiculous by the translation faux pas of "peregruzka", which apparently means "overloaded" or "overcharged", instead of "reset".  Clinton might as well have gone to Staples to buy an Easy Button.

Thesis Show Opening

Today is the opening for my thesis show at the Mills Gallery where I will be presenting documentation of this project.  I am showing with 4 other fabulous Museum School Grads... definitely worth a look/see.

Day 165

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Omar al-Bashir

President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir has been issued an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity.  Crimes of genocide charges, sought by Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo were not included on the list of charges.  This is the first time the ICC has issued a warrant for the arrest of a Head of State.

Day 163

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Gimmie Guinea-Bissau

Guinea-Bissau is bloodied by the assasination of President Joao Bernardo Vieira AND armed forces chief General Batista Tagame Na Wai by military personnel.  The army maintains that they do not seek power while African Union officials arrive to avert any threat of a coup.

Day 162

Currency Protectionism

"...financial turmoil prompts large banks to favor local lending..."  Looks like currency protectionism will be the mode of investing for these troubled times especially in the wake of big government bailouts.

Day 161

American International Group, INC

AIG will be bailed out again.  Ratings agencies, Standard & Poor and Moody's Investor's Service have approved the rescue package for the troubled company.  From the article:

"Fearing that a collapse of AIG would wreak havoc on the world financial system, the U.S. government stepped in to save the insurer last September. The rescue plan awaiting approval is the third version and was worked out over a period of months, according to the report."
